That's news to me too. I suspect that he stood in between Reg Chant and Tommy Banner as they were the accordion players - Henry Davies was the bass and tuba guy (although he came and went around the same time). And if Reg left at short notice, I guess they could well have needed a stand-in before they found Tommy, so that makes a lot of sense. Love it - it's always nice to fill in another gap (especially a gap I didn't know existed!) I always wondered how Tommy Banner, an accordion and piano player from Mid-Lothian in Scotland, ever came to the notice of Adge and co... Scotland surely can't have been their first port of call... I guess it was all contacts and reputations. Must admit that it seems to have worked out - even if he still hasn't managed to lose that Scottish accent! I bet Tommy got a real shock when he arrived in Somerset though

Just read up on Tommy's arrival in the West Country. According to the notes in the Wurzels Songbook, Tommy claims that 'The Wurzels could not get a good accordionist in England so they went to Scotland and got a bad one!' He originally took a three months booking with Adge Cutler & The Wurzels prior to beginning a contract for a round-the-world trip playing in another band; and he has been in the West Country ever since. Tommy arrived in Somerset expecting to join a "trendy pop group"...
